FAIRSD sponsors this great event as a way for families to come together, showcase our amazing community from around the state, advocate for alternative intruction, and experience how our South Dakota Legislature
works in real time!
Join your legislators for lunch in the rotunda on Homeschool Day at the Capitol. FAIRSD will be serving lunch from Guadalajara's. Space is limited in the rotunda, so only 100 tickets are available. Other options: you can bring a sack lunch and eat in the Visitor Center, eat downstairs in the cafeteria, or dine at a local restaurant.
We need your help to provide cookies to our legislators for Homeschool Day at the Capitol. We estimate that we need 48 dozen cookies for this endeavor! If you sign up, please plan to meet FAIRSD in the Capitol Rotunda at 9:30am. Thank you so much for making Homeschool Day at the Capitol great!
For $125, your family can help bring the planetarium from the SD Discovery Center to the Visitor Center next door to the Capitol to give kids a tour of the solar system. We have two sponsorships available. Sponsors will be recognized for their generosity at the beginning of the show and in future FAIRSD messaging. Please contact us if you are interested.

Homeschool Students! Every year we ask homeschool students to apply to serve as Musicians, Teen Ambassadors (hosts), or to bring an Academic Display (think Science Fair, but with any topic you are studying this year.) By showcasing your interests and talents you have the opportunity to represent homeschool students around the state. This helps us all to keep our homeschool freedom! We have closed the application for this year. Thank you to everyone who applied! Check back October 2025 to apply for Homeschool Day 2026!
Know what to expect when you visit the Capitol. This guide has been especially prepared for you and your family to aid your experience of Homeschool Day at the Capitol. There was a blizzard on both sides of the state, but we still packed the Capitol!
